Located in downtown Silver Springs, United Therapeutics’ Unisphere houses headquarter offices for the division overseeing development of human transplant organs. Cornerstone was hired to provide commissioning services for the design and construction of this cutting-edge net-zero facility, the world’s largest of its kind. Featuring primarily Class A office and state-of-the-art conferencing space, this seven-story building draws electrical power from 3,000+ high efficiency PV solar panels. A series of more than fifty 500-foot deep, closed-loop geothermal wells provide heating and cooling via water source heat pumps, energy recovery air handling units, and chilled beams. Additionally, the facility features a high-performance electrochromic curtainwall, automated windows for natural ventilation, daylight harvesting, and a geothermally-heated pool in the atrium with a moveable floor that raises to the lobby level concealing the pool when not in use.
